Because of their inability to reach high areas or their difficulty moving for long periods of time, elderly people may find it difficult to clean their houses. Light housekeeping is provided as part of a senior's complete care plan to assist him or her remain comfortable and independent in their own home. Dusting open surfaces; sweeping and mopping floors (damp mops – small areas and hard surface floors); wiping down counters; washing and putting away dishes; cleaning bathrooms and kitchens; taking out the trash; changing sheets and making the bed; and organizing drawers, shelves, and closets are all examples of light housekeeping tasks. The client's bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, and living room are the only rooms where light housekeeping is performed.
